RIP Mardi Gras

Well, shoot! I’m sure you have heard that the Mardi Gras has finally closed its doors after 60+ years. My sources (the trusty ol’ internet) say that the owners purchased it in 1958 for $1,000! Even without a roof this sounds like a good deal... My other source (Zillow) declined to comment on its present day value but I bet it’s gone up.

From roller skating to Jazz bands, this place knew how to party. The owner, Lydia Merrell, recently passed away at 106!!!

I know I certainly had a good time there back in 2001. This is the very spot of Boise High’s prom my senior year. It was so unforgettable that I married my date... a few years later. Let’s just say “I've had the time of my life. No, I never felt like this before. Yes, I swear, it's the truth, and I owe it all to you.”

Side note, I was at Five Guys downtown on Saturday night getting my burger on with my family (same guy from the Mardi Gras prom that I married) and we encountered a large prom group. I know I must be getting old because instead of being happy for them, their youth and young love, I was really annoyed and kinda grossed out. My fourteen year old son told me to be nice... I just wanted to eat my $9 burger in peace...
