Donnie Mac's

I’m not sure Boise has ever had a themed restaurant quite like Donnie Mac’s Trailer Park Cuisine. They took an old tire shop and turned it into something that you just had to experience. From double wide burgers to Spaghettios straight from the can, Donnie's had a little something for everyone. Another nostalgic spot for many of us that we had to say goodbye to. The lawn flamingos and toilets have been cleared away...
I think there is something much fancier there now. Because Boise is much fancier now.

I’m trying to think of other fun places to eat around town... I don’t know about themed, or fun, but growing up we didn’t eat out like we do now. Basically only for birthdays, or if 3 out of the 4 kids were gone at friend’s houses... Lucky if you were the one remaining kid who got to go. When the others found out, it was drama! It’s how we first learned about betrayal.

Tappenyaki was my Dad’s go-to. I liked Cafe Olé for the free polaroid in a sombrero. Whenever my grandparent blew in from Burley, we’d hit up King’s Table, which I think became JJ North’s. Oh, and do you remember going to Sizzler, when they were new on the scene, and you had to wait in that very, very long line? Like I said, these sorts of outings were few and far between. We were just as happy to get the 2 for 2 Whoppers or the .49¢ bean burritos from Taco Bell. Now I go to Taco Bell and it’s like $18 just for me... That’s a whole other post for another day.

Eating and spending money are the things that I am best at.
