Straight Outta

I started my educational path at Koelsch Elementary. I don’t remember a whole lot about it, but it is filed away in my brain under “Vanilla.” After 4th grade my parents entered into home ownership for the first time and we moved just a few blocks away from Whittier Elementary, where I would spend the next two years. It was quite a shift for us. My little sister who was in second grade was using all sorts of new colorful language, and there was no YouTube at the time to blame it on. I had really great teachers and made some really good friends but I definitely learned a few things about life there... I then found myself at North Jr. High. I don’t know if it was the extremely dim lighting, green carpeting or some sort of asbestos, but I have very few memories of my time there. A couple flashbacks of Mr. Blaine as both my geography teacher and volleyball coach swirl around my mind like a fever dream. I’m not really sure what happened during my three years there but every time I drive by it I can’t help but think about how much it looks like a prison. I’m not saying I got a bad education or I was wronged by the system. All I’m saying is some schools provide different experiences. Like, per se, if you had kids from Highland Elementary go up against kids from Whittier Elementary in an innocent game of Red Rover, back in the 90s, who would you put your money on? That’s all I’m saying.

Now, if you are looking at this week's designs and you are wondering why your school didn’t make the cut, I urge you to reach out. Kelly said he is willing to let people fight him to see if their street skills check out. Unless you are from Koelsch or Highland Elementary—then we have already ruled on you. If you are offended that your school DID make the cut, I urge you to move on with your life with your head held high.

As always, this was borderline offensive and we didn’t intend it to be.
