Nirvana at The Zoo

I’d like to dedicate this week’s newsletter to my dear sweet brother, business partner & beloved Boise OG creative genius. Kelly has turned 40. I was unable to get through to Delilah to dedicate a song to him so this will have to do… plus she probably would have picked a song that made no sense for a bro/sis relationship like "Butterfly Kisses." But seriously, 40 years old… Fingers crossed that he has a few good years left in him. Happy birthday lil' buddy!

Anywho… One of my favorite things to do is stumble across something interesting or random on the internet and then tell people about it in a very matter of fact tone like I always knew it. That’s basically what these emails are… So one day as I was doing a little OG research I stumbled across an old flyer. Then I say to Kelly, in my smart voice, "Did you know Nirvana played at the Zoo?" The not so smart part was that I didn't realize that the "Zoo" was not Zoo Boise, but a concert house downtown (later known as Bogie’s) from long ago, 1991 in fact. Probably the only real difference is that it smelled like teen spirit instead of monkeys. See what I did there?

It was probably that very concert here in little ol' Boise that helped Nirvana get their name out there. Boise's special like that.

The closest thing I ever got to a concert like that was seeing Spice World at the Northgate movie theater. You know back when Emporium and Mac Frugal's were over there? It might have even been Pic N' Save, doesn't really matter because that has absolutely nothing to do with Nirvana or anything really.

That's all I got.

P.S. if you've never heard the Tori Amos "Smells Like Teen Spirit" cover go give it a listen.
