Gowen Field

Did you know that the original Top Gun movie was filmed out at Gowen Field? Just kidding, but did you know that the cast of the new Top Gunmovie toured Gowen Field? That’s also not true, but feel free to use that on your gullible coworker.

I don’t have a lot of personal experience with Gowen Field other than the Blue Angels show during the River Festival back in the 90s, and Gowen Thunder a few years ago. I did See Top Gun: Maverick on Friday and imagine it’s very similar.

I heard somewhere that Val Kilmer lived in Boise on Harrison Blvd at one point. I just did a quick internet search (which is how I verify most of my information). I couldn’t find anything more concrete than a Twitter thread saying someone saw him in a Starbucks in 1999... So... obviously it’s true.

I think the most famous person I have ever seen in Boise was maybe the keyboard guy from Boyz II Men at the mall. Looking back it could have been just a random guy... One time when I was working at the Capital City Market a few years ago, I had a customer who was visiting from out of town. He asked if I knew where Bruce Willis lived... like wanting directions. I was like, I think Sun Valley but that’s not where you are right now... It’s like asking someone from Canada if they know your friend who is also from Canada. I guess not really, but sort of.
