Iron Gate
How does all you can eat FREE popcorn and shuffleboard sound? Pretty good right? Well that sucks because the best place in Boise who paired those two things flawlessly is gone. I’m talking about The Iron Gate.
At one time, sharing the intersection of Capitol Boulevard/University Drive/Boise Avenue with such neighbors as Blimpie’s, Delsa’s, Shari’s, University Inn and of course Boise State’s campus. It was a wonderland where one could explore their new found independence as “adults.” The Iron Gate was a place where the real education happened. In fact some teachers held classes there. I’m now wondering how many college students survived off of the free popcorn… the original life hack.
As usual, I have no idea what I’m talking about and have no business writing about a place I never went to. But you get what you get. I went to BYU Idaho. We didn’t have bars, shuffleboards or free popcorn… Instead we had Tang, scriptures and 10 o’clock curfews. I have since reconnected with an old roommate who confessed that she was getting .30¢ bagels from the culinary arts department, but never told me… That’s basically like free popcorn. Anyone who knows me knows I love bread, and also that I never let things go… Now I’m all fired up. Seriously, .30¢ bagels and I was living off saltine crackers and refried beans… She’ll get hers.
Well that’s it,
